"Project M is a safe place for HIV+ gay and bisexual men to celebrate healthy sex and their right to have a fulfilling and satisfying sex life"
Project M is a provocative and exciting group workshop for
HIV+ gay and bisexual men, which is being offered statewide throughout
Connecticut. The workshop was developed at AIDS Project Hartford
in collaboration with the Connecticut Prison Association, The Gay
& Lesbian Health Collective, The Living Center, and the University
of Connecticut School of Social Work.
Project M Workshops are offered over several weekends throughout the year. The workshop groups are small and intimate with no more than 6 to 8 HIV+ gay/bisexual men in a group. All of the groups are facilitated by HIV+ gay/bisexual men.
The purpose of Project M is to stimulate discussion around healthy sex and sexual communication so that HIV+ gay and bisexual men can work towards having healthy and fulfilling sex lives. The groups provide safe and confidential places for participants to explore a variety of issues including:
- How do I have a healthy sex life?
- How risky is oral sex and other behaviors?
- How do latex condoms compare to polyurethane condoms and to Reality Condoms?
- How do I tell someone that I am HIV+?
- Will people still want to have sex with me once I tell them that I am HIV+?
- How does unsafe sex affect my health?
- Can I be reinfected with another strain of HIV?
- What happens if I am not perfect in my practice of safer sex?
- How do I make healthy sex erotic and exciting?
These issues and others are discussed and examined in the groups in order to help
each individual determine what healthy sex goals are realistic for
him personally and what best fits his lifestyle. The group meetings
are informative and provocative as well as upbeat, fun, and sexy.
In order to keep the groups interesting and stimulating, a variety
of activities occur including video presentation, hands-on
activities,
role plays, and informal discussions.
